Tow My Camper (TMC) is our program for towing skills development. With so many Australians taking to the road on holidays or in retirement, the hire, or purchase of a camper trailer or caravan, features pretty highly in many people's view of what constitutes a comfortable time away. 

There's a few challenges that will need ironing out before you go though.

If you've never towed anything heavier or bigger than a 6X4 box trailer to the dump, you'll probably be surprised at what a difference 500-1000kgs can make to the performance of your vehicle and just how little you can see through to the rear. If you thought reversing the 6X4 was tricky, a camper or caravan will make life that little bit more harder, but help is at hand with our tried and proven methods.

We'll work through the fundamentals in our classroom, seeking out weights, the different styles of hitches, where drivers have come to grief in the past, tyres and tyre pressures, all in an easy to understand presentation. It'll lay down the framework for the afternoon practical. 

The drive to our training grounds will give us an opportunity to assess your current driving style and allow us to make some recommendations that might improve the situation (rest assured we are incredibly polite and patient). After a bite to eat we'll get stuck in with the first challenge... reversing! After repeated practice and some success you won't fear backing into a confined space ever again, all done at a snail's pace with plenty of reassurance from your instructor.

With the flat ground work out the way it's now time to find out how you get to that out-of-the-way campsite the hard way. Depending on the capability of your camper/caravan we'll set you to work on our test track with plenty of ascents and descents, diagonal lumps and bumps to induce loss of traction, some gentle sideslopes and a whole lot more so you can experience the real bush trail. At each obstacle we'll analyse what the requirement will be to safely negotiate the potential hazard, all designed to get you there and back unscathed!
